Unless we take immediate action, a chance to pass a strong piece of legislation through the Senate this year, with the potential to make a real impact on global warming, could be lost. The Climate Security Act is presently being debated in the Senate, but requires a number of amendments to improve its effectiveness.

As a constituent and strong supporter of the League of Conservation Voters, I am writing to urge you to make the necessary amendments to the Climate Security Act (S.2191) to ensure that the finished version of this bill will have the necessary impact on the most severe effects of global warming.

This includes amendments to increase the stringency of global warming pollution reduction targets to 80% by 2050, making polluters pay for all of their pollution permits, and using that money to help consumers and promote clean energy.

These amendments must be included to make S.2191 as strong as possible.  And I am also counting on you to fend off any anti-environment amendments to this bill proposed on the Senate floor that could undermine its effectiveness.

Please do the right thing for our children and grandchildren's future - commit to strengthening S.2191 and working to pass a revised version of this bill that will prevent the catastrophic impacts of global warming, before it is too late.
