Tell the top reporters to stop ignoring the issue

People are tired of seeing global warming ignored by the media. That's why already in 2008, more than 200,000 people have signed a petition calling on the media to make global warming a priority. After the joke of a debate on ABC two weeks ago, we need to keep the heat on.

The debate moderators can help make sure the candidates' positions on global warming are clear--so what are they waiting for?

We are currently in the middle of one of the most important elections of our time.  I am concerned, however, that we do not have enough information about the presidential candidates' positions on global warming - one of the most critical issues facing us today.  As a top political debate moderator, you have the power to ask the candidates about these issues.  Unfortunately, to date you have largely ignored the issue of global warming in the presidential election.

I demand that you make a point of asking all the candidates these three simple questions:

- Given the urgency of global warming, will you commit to take action on the issue in your first 100 days in office? If yes, what specifically would you do?
 - Will you push a mandatory cap on emissions that achieves at least a 20 percent reduction by the end of next decade?
 - Will you call a major international summit on global warming in your first 60 days and work to sign a new international treaty by the end of your first year?

The American public deserves to know where all the candidates stand on the climate crisis and the solutions they propose to address it.

Asking those questions is your responsibility. I call on you to do it.
