Last night, President Obama made history. His speech marked the first time a President has called on a joint session of Congress to cap global warming pollution.
He's not alone. Last week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he hopes to bring a global warming bill to the Senate before the end of this summer. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has also said she plans to bring a bill to the House floor this year.
We need a new energy future to fix what ails our national security, our economy and our planet.
Dear Senator __________
In his speech on Tuesday night, President Obama asked you to pass a bill to cap global warming pollution. This legislation will create jobs, improve our security and protect the planet by increasing the use and development of clean, renewable energy.
Clean energy and reduced pollution are the keys to a better future, not only for our economy, but for our environment as well. I urge you to pass a science-based bill to cap global warming pollution and lead us to a clean energy economy. Please stand firm against the opposition that will undoubtedly come from the oil and coal lobbyists, and send a bill to President Obama this year. Neither our planet nor our economy can afford to wait.
Stand with me. Stand for me. Stand for the health, prosperity and security of future generations of Americans and I will stand with you.
