Memo to Congress: Get it Together for Clean Energy!

As the Senate and House prepare to wrangle over their different energy bills, they need to hear from as many constituents as possible: America wants the cleanest, strongest energy bill possible.

Don't wait to urge your lawmakers to reduce our reliance on dangerous fossil fuels, save us billions of dollars on energy costs, and help curb global warming.

Sending a message takes just a minute. A good energy bill will make a difference for generations to come.

As your constituent, and as a League of Conservation Voters supporter, I want you to make sure the best provisions from both the House and Senate make it in to the final energy bill this fall.

As you and your colleagues discuss the bill's final provisions, it's critical that you preserve the following measures:

- Renewable Electricity Standard. The House bill requires utilities to generate 15% of their power from clean, renewable energy sources like wind and solar by 2020.  
 - CAFE standards and fuel efficient vehicles. The Senate bill increases the average mileage of cars and trucks to 35 miles per gallon by 2020.   
 - Tax Big Oil. The House bill reduces some of the giant tax breaks now enjoyed by the oil and gas industries, and instead creates incentives for renewable energy.

With the inclusion of these measures, the energy bill would be a powerful step toward a cleaner, healthier future for all Americans.

It's encouraging to know that so many members of Congress have made clean energy a top priority and I hope you can keep up the momentum to send the strongest energy bill possible to the president's desk. We are so close to putting our country on the right path - please, don't let this opportunity slip away!
