Action Alert: Your Help Urgently Needed
Tell Your Senators to Keep the Environment Front and Center

On September 12th, the Senate began hearings on the nomination of Judge John Roberts for Chief Justice of the United States.  We need to send a message to all Senators that environmental issues cannot be ignored during the hearings.  Remember, Judge Roberts is up for a lifetime appointment, and this is our last chance to remind him of the American public's strong support for the environment.

Tell the Senate that you want Judge Roberts to be asked about his views on the laws that protect our air, water, and wildlife.

Subject: Judge Roberts and the Environment

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As a supporter of the League of Conservation Voters and a constituent who feels strongly that the Supreme Court must uphold our nation's environmental laws, I urge you to thoroughly review Judge John Roberts's full record, judicial decisions, and constitutional philosophy.

In addition, I hope you will ask tough questions of Judge Roberts regarding his views on the federal government's ability to protect our air, water, wildlife, and public lands. I am particularly interested in knowing whether Judge Roberts believes Congress has the authority to protect waterways and endangered species that don't cross state lines.

As you know, Judge Roberts is up for a lifetime appointment, which could mean decades of interpreting our environmental laws. Please gather as much information as possible about Judge Roberts in the coming days and weeks about whether he would limit the federal government's ability to enforce our environmental laws.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
