10 ways to end America's dangerous addiction
In the 2006 State of the Union Address, President Bush made a striking admission to the American people:
"...we have a serious problem: America is addicted to oil..."
It took the Bush Administration 6 years to come to this realization -- but it's better late than never.
Write to the President and Congress with the 10 ways they can start to break this dangerous habit NOW.

Subject: Let's Break the Oil Habit
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
In the 2006 State of the Union, the Bush Administration finally admitted "...we have a serious problem: America is addicted to oil..."
Now is the time to take these important measures to ending our addiction to foreign oil:
1. Significantly raise fuel economy standards for automobiles.
2. Follow the lead of 22 states and pass a federal renewable energy standard.
3. Expand the use of 21st-century technology to increase energy efficiency and conservation.
4. Make real, meaningful investments toward putting clean, cheap, renewable energy sources, like wind and solar power on the ground (not just studying their use).
5. No more secret, energy task forces where oil company lobbyists write our energy and environmental policies.
6. Increase investment in public transportation.
7. Put more hybrid cars and trucks on the road.
8. Provide greater tax incentives for commuting/car pooling.
9. Increase "Green Building" tax credits.
10. No more giveaways by Congress to big oil and gas companies already reaping sky-high, record profits.
Only if we take these real, meaningful measures NOW, can we begin our quest for energy independence.
Sincerely,
|
